Early voting is underway for the Aug. 11 special election runoff in Georgia House District 80, which covers parts of Sandy Springs as well as Brookhaven and a portion of Chamblee.

Residents of the district will choose between Democrat Taylor J. Bennett and Republican J. Max Davis, neither of whom managed to reach 50 percent of the vote in the July 14 election. Bennett finished first in that round of balloting among four candidates, tallying almost 37 percent to Davis’ 31.5 percent.

For eligible North Fulton voters, early balloting will run 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. through Aug. 7 at the North Fulton Annex, 7741 Roswell Road in Sandy Springs. Davis served as the inaugural mayor of Brookhaven before resigning to run for the House seat; Bennett is a local attorney.

The seat came open earlier this year when former Republican State Rep. Mike Jacobs resigned to accept a judicial appointment.
