A dump truck driver is facing charges after he plowed into two cars, killing one motorist and seriously injuring the other in Marietta on Tuesday, according to Cobb County police.

Trisha M. Miller, 38, of Dallas, died in the accident on Dallas Highway, police said. Louis R. Duckwall Jr., 56, of Marietta, was seriously injured.

The dump truck driver, Jason Chatham, 34, of Powder Springs, was not injured in the accident, according to police.

Investigators said Chatham was eastbound on Dallas Highway just west of the West Sandtown Road intersection shortly before 1 p.m. Tuesday when he tried to stop as the traffic light turned from yellow to red.

Police said that Chathan ran through the light and into the left turn lane and struck the Kia driven by Miller, who was making a left turn onto Dallas.

The force of that impact drove the Kia and the dump truck into a Nissan Sentra being driven by Duckwall. The Kia and the Nissan both ended up hitting a guardrail. The dump truck rammed through the guardrail and into the wood line on the north side of the intersection.

Duckwall was taken by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, Marietta, where he was treated for serious injuries. Miller was also taken to Wellstar Kennestone, where she died as a result of her injuries.

Investigators say charges are expected to be filed against Chatham. Anyone with information to assist investigators is asked to call 770-499-3987.
