Duluth Mayor Nancy Harris outlined a unified community, major projects and walkability among the city’s goals during her State of the City address Monday evening.

“We want you to eat in Duluth, shop in Duluth and be Duluth,” Harris said. “Everything you do needs to be about Duluth.”

To that end, Harris updated the community on construction in The Block, a restaurant district being developed next door to the city’s Town Green and a mixed-use development at the corner of Sugarloaf Parkway and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. Both projects tout walkability among their features.

Future projects include a new 10-year parks and recreation plan that contains joint funds between the city, Gwinnett County, Johns Creek and Fulton County for the revitalization of Rogers Bridge. In addition, a new city library will be constructed downtown and plans should soon be approved for The Village at Duluth, a 400-residential unit structure with retail along Buford Highway in the former Proctor Square location.
