Atlanta police investigated a fatal accident near Lenox Square mall in Buckhead overnight.
Hugo Pacheco, 36, of Duluth was killed around 11 p.m. Friday when he lost control of his 2007 Subaru Impreza, veered into the path of oncoming traffic and struck another vehicle, police spokesman Sgt. Curtis Davenport said.
The accident occurred near the intersection of Lenox Road and Ferncliff Road, just south of the mall. Pacheco, traveling southbound on Lenox, hit a northbound 1997 Toyota Avalon, causing serious injuries to the unidentified driver.
The Avalon driver was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital with serious injuries, and a passenger was also taken to Grady with cuts and bruises, Davenport said. The driver of the Subaru had extreme head trauma and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Rainy weather may have contributed to the accident, the spokesman said in a statement. “It is unknown if drugs or alcohol was a contributing factor,” Davenport said.
