After some light rain fell across parts of north Georgia Friday morning, the weekend weather should be dry for festivals, football and roadwork.
That forecast will be good news for participants in the 42nd annual Atlanta Pride Festival, which begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at Piedmont Park and continues through 7 p.m. Sunday. The festival parade steps off from the Civic Center MARTA station at 1 p.m. Sunday, and marches north on Peachtree Street to 10th Street, then east on 10th to Piedmont Park.
While Georgia and Georgia Tech both have open dates, there are lots of other football games around town this weekend, including the Falcons-Raiders game at 1 p.m. on Sunday at the Georgia Dome.
On Saturday, the Dome will be hosting the Atlanta Public Schools “Domecoming,” with four football games beginning at 11 a.m.
On the Atlanta University Center campus Saturday, Clark Atlanta takes on Benedict College in a 2 p.m. homecoming game, and Morehouse plays Albany State at 7 p.m.
There’s also roadwork scheduled this weekend that will likely cause major traffic jams, particularly on the top-end Perimeter and around the Cobb cloverleaf.
The ramps from I-75 southbound to I-285 eastbound and from I-285 westbound to I-75 northbound in Cobb County will be closed, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday, according to the state Department of Transportation.
In that same area, the three right lanes of I-285 westbound will be shut down from I-75 to Cobb Parkway during the same hours.
On I-285 eastbound, the three right lanes will be closed from Cobb Parkway to Riverside Drive, and the three right lanes of I-285 westbound will be closed from Ashford Dunwoody Road to Roswell Road.
In Gwinnett County, motorists on I-85 in both directions can expect lane closures in the area of Ga. 120 from 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Sunday as crews do work on the Express Lanes.
