Alpharetta police say a tractor trailer driver may have been responsible for an incident Friday in which a utility worker was knocked out of the bucket of his truck and fell about 20 feet.

Authorities originally believed that the case was a hit and run.

Police spokesman Officer George Gordon said Saturday, however, the driver believed to be at fault contacted police and stated he was unaware his tractor trailer had hit the utility truck.

“He discovered the damage this morning and called us,” Gordon said Saturday. “At this time the incident is under investigation.”

The incident happened around 9:30 p.m. at the intersection of Old Milton Parkway and Haynes Bridge Road. The utility worker's vehicle was hit by a garbage-type truck towing a trailer, Gordon said.

The truck had an Illinois tag, T467184, and the unique number on the back of the truck is 11761-A, Gordon said.

The worker was transported to a hospital. He suffered broken bones but is expected to recover, Gordon said.
