A tractor-trailer driver is facing charges after a fatal wreck on Cobb Parkway on Friday morning, Marietta police said.
Investigators said James David Rast Jr., 47, of Jay, Fla., was attempting to turn left from Industrial Park Drive onto Cobb Parkway southbound in a white 2013 Freightliner tractor-trailer when he drove into the path of a van around 7:15 a.m.
The van, a white 2006 Chevrolet Express, hit the left side of the trailer and caught fire. Driver Mahmoud Dabdoub, 49, of Marietta was killed.
All of Cobb Parkway was closed at Industrial Park Drive, but was reopened at 10 a.m.
Officer David Baldwin said the wreck was not weather-related but that DOT crews would put sand on the road so that water used to put out the fire would not freeze over.
Rast was charged with failure to yield while turning left and second-degree vehicular homicide, Officer Michael Gardner said. He is in the Cobb County Adult Detention Center on $250,000.00 bond.
Anyone with information on the crash should contact Gardner at 770-794-5266.
