The drive to establish another city in Forsyth County has taken a major step forward.
State Rep. Mike Dudgeon, R-Johns Creek introduced HB 660 calling for a referendum on the proposed city of Sharon Springs in south Forsyth. Introduction of the bill this year means it’ll be considered during the 2016 legislative session.
If passed, residents living within the proposed city limits would go to the polls May 24, 2016 to vote on the proposed municipality. If approved, the new city would start operations Jan. 1, 2017. The limited-services city would only handle zoning, sanitation and code enforcement The incorporation drive was sparked by area residents concerned about rampant development in south Forsyth.
The proposed Sharon Spring boundaries are roughly east of Ga. 400, south of Ga. 20, the Chattahoochee River and the Fulton County line, with about 50,000 proposed residents.
