If your Saturday afternoon plans include driving southbound on the Downtown Connector through Midtown, you’ll want to pack plenty of patience.

Road construction has shut down three southbound lanes of I-75/85 from North Avenue to Edgewood Avenue, backing up traffic for several miles and onto both I-75 and I-85 north of the Brookwood Interchange.

According to the state Department of Transportation, the lane closure was necessary to cure concrete for new sign being placed near the Grady curve.

At 12:15 p.m. Saturday, the southbound jam began near North Druid Hills Road on I-85, and north of Howell Mill Road on I-75.

At 6 p.m., the DOT reported that it was taking motorists between 60 and 90 minutes to make it through the jam.

Other weekend construction projects were slowing traffic on the top-end Perimeter and in the area of I-285 and I-20 in DeKalb County.
