On Feb. 2, painters from Fresh Coat Painters of Atlanta gave 10 medical rooms at Camp Twin Lakes a “fresh coat” as a part of its Paint It Forward campaign.
Fresh Coat franchises in Buford, Lawrenceville, Columbus, Roswell and Marietta came together to give back to the camp that provides life-changing camp experiences to thousands of Georgia’s children with serious illnesses, disabilities and other life challenges.
Owner of Fresh Coat of Marietta, Mike Byars, held this project close to his heart. “For my family, Camp Twin Lakes is a very special place that provides fond memories of past summers. My son was diagnosed with brain cancer when he was 10. As a child, going to Camp Twin Lakes was the highlight of his summers,” said Byars.
The fresh coat of paint transformed inside the Medical Lodge at Camp Twin Lakes’ Rutledge location, including patient bedrooms, exam rooms, nurse’s stations and a pharmacy. The Medical Lodge is used to accommodate children who require medical attention while at camp, including chemotherapy and dialysis treatments as well as lab tests.
“It’s important to maintain positive morale and cheerful surroundings,” said Eric Robbins, chief executive officer of Camp Twin Lakes. “By adding a new splash of color to the walls, it provides a comforting atmosphere that will surely keep our campers in bright spirits while receiving treatment in the Medical Lodge.” The camp serves over 9,900 campers annually.
The Paint It Forward campaign was started by Eric Ascencio, previous co-owner of a Fresh Coat Painters franchise in Houston, Texas, who made it his mission to give back to other cancer patients before he lost his battle with the disease.
In honor of Ascencio, the initiative was adopted nationally by Fresh Coat Painters and it aims to brighten up the homes or offices of those that deserve a fresh space across the country.
