The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners has approved a nearly $4.6 million contract to add new amenities to Alexander Park.
The contract for the project was awarded to Lovvorn Construction, Inc., and it will be funded by SPLOST revenue.

The project includes a two-acre dog park, which will have a separate area for small dogs to play. It will also feature new trail connections, a picnic shelter, a playground and a pavilion. The plans also include 325 new parking spots connected to the existing entrance driveway off Old Snellville Highway, a county release said.
Alexander Park already has multiple attractions on its 132 acres, including a fishing lake and an 18-hole disc golf course. A 40-acre nature preserve is also planned for the future, but no timeline has been set for its creation, the county said.
