Two of DeKalb County’s top prosecutors are leaving their current posts for similar jobs in Cobb County.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Don Geary, an integral part of the state’s murder case against Andrea Sneiderman, will leave his job at year’s end, according to people familiar with the situation.
Geary will go to work for new Cobb D.A. Vic Reynolds, the sources said. Deputy Chief Assistant D.A. John Melvin is also leaving for a post with Reynolds. Geary and Melvin have about 40 years of prosecutorial experience combined and were deeply involved in some of the county’s biggest cases.
Geary was the lead prosecutor in the Hemy Neuman trial, including the pivotal questioning of Andrea Sneiderman about her alleged involvement with her husband Rusty’s killer. Andrea Sneiderman has pleaded not guilty and a trial is pending.
Geary and Melvin will remain with the DeKalb D.A.’s office through the end of the month, the sources said.
“This will not hinder any cases going forward,” said Erik Burton, a spokesman for DeKalb District Attorney Robert James. “We wish them the best.”
