A Kroger in DeKalb County will be demolished and replaced this year, the company said.

The store at 3559 Chamblee Tucker Road in Embry Hills will close by this Sunday, Feb. 2, Kroger spokesman Felix Turner said. The grocer plans to build an expanded “replacement store” in its place.

Construction has already begun on the new, 114,000-square-foot Kroger, which is expected to open later this year. Officials have not yet set an opening date.

“Kroger is excited to build a new store to suit the unique needs of our customers,” Turner said.

The new operation will feature an expanded selection of “natural foods and organic assortment of products,” as well as a pick-up option for grocery items purchased online.

The 119 employees that currently work at the store will be “considered for reassignment to other Kroger locations,” Turner said.

The store is in northern DeKalb just outside the Perimeter, south of Doraville and I-85. Loyal Kroger shoppers can visit the Tucker and Northlake locations until the new Embry Hills store opens, the company said.
