A DeKalb County homeowner had a rude awakening Monday morning when an intruder, clad only in boxer shorts, ran into his house and begged him to call police.

The incident took place shortly after 5 a.m. in the 3200 block of Ashford-Dunwoody Road.

The homeowner, Kevin Dawson, said he was asleep in his recliner in front of the television when the man came running through the back door.

"I was sleeping in front my TV, a man poured through the door, locked the door behind him and said ‘call the police, call the police!' ... I was scared to death, I didn't know this man, he was hiding in my living room behind the couch  and I'm calling police," the homeowner said.

The man had some type of injury, Dawson said. "There was blood on my floor."

"Police got in here; he says ‘Are they here, are they here?' I said ‘they're here,  just relax ... the man took forever to settle down and give some kind of coherent story, and it's still not very coherent.

"They finally settled him down; he was just scared to death ... just hyped up and scared. I don't know why."

The intruder told police he lost is clothes  running through the woods. "They put him on a stretcher, taking him to get some help," Dawson said. "So I hope he'll be all right ... This was quite a wakeup call."

Did the police tell him anything else?

"They said to lock my door."
