A DeKalb County assistant principal indicted for altering attendance records is now in jail.

Derrick Wooten, 33, was booked into the DeKalb County jail on Thursday morning – two days after being indicted.

A grand jury indicted Wooten Tuesday on four counts of public record fraud, four counts of criminal attempt to commit a felony and one count of computer forgery.

Wooten was working as an assistant principal at Stoneview Elementary in Lithonia when he instructed eight teachers to change students’ attendance records on a school computer with the intention of making the Adequate Yearly Progress federal mandate, District Attorney Robert James said.

Wooten remains a school employee, but he has been re-assigned to an administrative position outside of the classroom. Wooten called in sick on Wednesday and Thursday, district spokesman Walter Woods said.
