The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved an allocation of $345,000 on Dec. 10 from Commissioner Steve Bradshaw’s District 4 Park Bond Funds for capital improvements at Needham Park.
Sitting on approximately three acres on McClendon Drive in Scottdale, Needham Park was established in 1930 as part of the J.F. McClendon subdivision.
In 2018, Friends of Needham Park was awarded a Park Pride Visioning grant. After several community meetings were held from November 2018 through July 2019, a Needham Park vision plan was develop with recommendations to address stream and habitat restoration, protection and enhancements; improvements to park access circulation; and seating and community gathering spots.
“I am pleased to make this allocation for the renovation and improvements to Needham Park,” Commissioner Bradshaw said. “Although a small park, Needham Park has and will continue to have a huge impact on the many constituents who use the park for recreation.”
