3After receiving several calls with questions and complaints, DeKalb County Commissioner Elaine Boyer said she is urging all residents to report abuse of the county’s homestead exemption.
The tax break is designed only for homeowners who are living in a property on Jan. 1 and using the home as their legal residence. It does not apply for rental property or vacant land.
Complaints can be directed to the tax commissioner’s office at 404-298-4000 or to Boyer’s office, at ecboyer@dekalbcountyga.gov.
