A DeKalb County charter school will break ground Thursday on a temporary facility to house 140 students.
The Museum School of Avondale Estates is scheduled to move into a temporary facility on the property of the Avondale Estates Baptist Church on Covington Road in August. It will use that school for three years while it raises money for a permanent facility, spokeswoman Peggy Pusateri said.
The Georgia Charter Schools Commission approved the school earlier this year. The school will start out with students in kindergarten-third grade this year, but will add a grade each year until it reaches eighth grade, Pusateri said. The school is for students who live in the Avondale and Midway elementary schools zones.
School officials said they have three remaining seats in the first grade, but all other grades have waiting lists for enrollment.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday at 3191 Covington Road.
