UPDATE: Cafe Lily received an 88/B on its follow-up inspection June 28. The inspector noted that some dairy products and other food items were still stored at temperatures too warm for consumption and was discarded. This is a repeat violation.

ORIGINAL STORY: A family-owned Mediterranean restaurant in Decatur failed a routine health inspection this week, according to a report from the Georgia Department of Public Health.

Cafe Lily on West Ponce de Leon Avenue received a 67/U on its health inspection Tuesday after the inspector observed, among other violations, an "accumulation" of dust on the grill cooler unit and dried food crumbs on the rack that holds clean utensils. The restaurant received an 86/B on its previous inspection in February.

Aside from the dust and food crumbs on racks in the kitchen, the health inspector also noticed employees failing to wash their hands after touching trash or dirty dishes. Raw beef was stored directly on top of a cold well full of ready-to-eat food, and many foods in the kitchen were stored at temperatures warmer than acceptable, including dairy products and cut vegetables.

Management at Cafe Lily was not immediately available for comment. A follow-up inspection is scheduled for Tuesday, June 28.
