Decatur’s search for a new superintendent kicks off with a series of community forums and an online survey. The forums are 6:30 p.m., June 1, 2, 3 and Aug. 5 at the Central Office/Beacon Municipal Center, 125 Electric Ave.
The survey can be accessed at www.ecrasurvey.com/Decatur.
Chairman Garrett Goebel said the school board’s initial task is constructing a “leadership profile” featuring 25 characteristics. “I think just about everyone is looking at the same characteristics in an effective superintendent,” Goebel said. “What we hope to learn [from community interaction] is the priority of those characteristics”
Goebel said the board will prepare a preliminary leadership profile in June, with a final draft scheduled for August. There is, however, still no precise timetable in selecting a replacement for Phyllis Edwards, who resigned in February and remains on the job for now.
