An announcement of the new superintendent of the City Schools of Decatur has been delayed until mid-October at the earliest. Last week CSD consultant Brad Draeger said he expected a new superintendent announcement by Sept. 15. But on Tuesday board Chairman Garrett Goebel said in a text to several media members that the board has held a second round of interviews and are currently vetting candidates. He said they hope to be ready to announce finalists before the end of the month.

In a separate interview, Goebel said the board could name “up to three finalists.” By law that finalist list must be announced at least 14 days before naming a final choice. Even if announced in October there’s yet no way of knowing when the new leader will actually start work.
