Decatur recently acquired five parcels of green space totaling two acres, which became available during the city’s tax sale for delinquent properties. None of the five 623 Chevelle Lane, 343 Madison Avenue, 905 South Candler Street, 315 Lansdowne Avenue and 239 Willow Lane include structures nor are they considered developable.

“Community stakeholders,” said Assistant City Manager David Junger, “will be involved with determining the best way to preserve, protect and maintain these properties.”

Acquisition costs are $22,560 for property currently valued at $150,000 by DeKalb County. The city now has 110 acres of publicly-owned green space but, according to City Manager Peggy Merriss, this is “the first time in long time” Decatur’s purchased tax deeds specifically for expanding its green space holdings.
