A jewelry store manager was shot multiple times and robbed as he got into his car in the parking lot of Cumberland Mall Sunday night.

The shooter bore a handgun and covered his face, firing several times, striking the victim more than once, Cobb County Police spokesman Ofc. Joseph Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the 31-year-old victim managed a jewelry store inside the mall, and was robbed of the store's bank deposit.

The victim, whose name has not been released, is expected to recover from the shooting, Hernandez said.

The shooting occurred around 7:45 p.m. in the parking area outside Maggiano's restaurant. The victim drove to a nearby Barnes and Noble book store parking lot. Several witnesses called police, and the victim was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. "The last I heard, he was alert and conscious," Hernandez said.

Hernandez said the gunman possibly left the scene in a green late-model Toyota or Infiniti.
