Coweta mechanic claims $1M lottery prize

Meanwhile, ticket sold in Newnan a winner for woman

A Coweta diesel mechanic pulled up to a gas station recently and drove away with a $1 million Georgia Lottery winning ticket.

Robert Baker Jr. of Grantville bought the 15th Anniversary Millionaire Extravaganza instant game ticket at Money Back at 1831 E. Main St. in Hogansville.

After Baker purchased the lucky ticket while pumping gas, he told the Georgia Lottery he scratched half of it in his car and the other half at his family-owned diesel mechanic shop.

"I totally did not believe it at first," the 42-year-old mechanic. "It's like a dream come true."

Baker said he plans to pay bills with part of the winnings and invest the remainder.

Meanwhile, Ann Lundin got a great Mother's Day gift a day early. That's when she found out she had matched all five numbers in the May 8 Fantasy 5 drawing, winning a $244,783 jackpot.

"This was the perfect Mother's Day gift," said Lundin, who bought her Quik Pik ticket at Thomas Crossroads BP on E. Highway 34 in Newnan.

It's been a lucrative week for several Georgians. A Marietta man hit it big twice recently playing the lottery.

On April 26, Donizete de Jesus Dalto, 40, was one of five people to match the winning numbers in a Fantasy 5 drawing, banking $227,128. Dalto won six figures again when he was one of two players to win the May 8 Fantasy 5 drawing, this time bringing home a $244,783 jackpot.

Also this week, James Whitley, 33, of Nicholson in North Georgia claimed the $500,000 top prize playing $500,000 Hold 'Em Poker.
