Alpharetta police and firefighters rescued a couple from a predawn fire at their Waters Mill Drive home on Friday.

A female resident called 911 around 1:30 a.m. to report her house was filled with smoke, according to Alpharetta public safety spokesman George Gordon. Upon arrival, authorities forced entry and rescued the husband and wife from an upstairs bathroom where they were awaiting help.

Several pets were also brought to safety.

The couple was hospitalized for observation. The cause of the blaze is under investigation, Gordon said.
