Marietta cancels Milo’s business license

Marietta has cancelled the business license of Milo’s Bar and Grill, 11 Garrison Road, after 49 incidents there in three years. That number includes 14 acts of violence including the murder of Tekilum Terrell on April 7, 2013 and a gun battle in the parking lot two weeks ago. School board member to resign

Marietta City school board member Brett Bittner will resign April 30 after accepting a marketing job in Indianapolis. Bittner was elected to the Ward 1 post in a special election in 2012 and reelected to a four-year term that started in January. Basketball fundraiser Saturday

The Don’t Be a Bully Foundation will host its first annual DBAB All-Star Anti-Bullying Basketball Classic Fundraiser from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at the South Cobb Recreation Center, 875 Six Flags Drive, Austell.

There also will be speakers David and Tina Long, whose son Tyler died from bullying, YouTube comedians Emmanuel and Phillip Hudson, vendors, a dj, youth performances by local artists, audience games, giveaways and concessions.

Meals-on-a-budget series begins Monday

A free six-week program on preparing healthy, tasty meals on a limited budget will begin 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday at South Cobb Regional Library, 805 Clay Road, Mableton.

Farmers market opens Saturday, Sunday

The Marietta Square Farmers Market starts its spring and summer season 9 a.m.-noon Saturday on North Park Square between Shillings Restaurant and the Earl Smith Strand Theatre.

The market will also open noon-3 p.m. Sunday on Mill Street between Church Street and the railroad tracks off the Marietta Square.

More than 65 vendors Saturdays and 30 Sundays will sell fruits, vegetables and artisan foods.

Program supports electronics training

Atlanta CareerRise has awarded $63,000 to the Electronics Workforce Alliance, a partnership of employers, education and training providers in the electronic soldering, assembly and repair industry. Besides training unskilled workers, existing employees will be eligible for additional training and credentials leading to promotions and wage increases. Snellville camera to aid public works

Snellville has purchased a pole camera so the public works department may view underground pipes. The $15,225 tool will allow inspectors to see a greater distance in the pipe when assessing for conditions, achieve inspections without additional staff and ensure staff safety.

Suwanee Day to become two-day event

Snellville officer honored by Chamber

Officer Jennifer ‘Rain’ Nieddu of the Snellville Police Department has been named Public Safety Person of the Year at the Gwinnett Chamber Valor Awards. During her first full year as a Special Operations Officer Nieddu made 374 arrests including 22 felony drug arrests, 83 misdemeanor drug arrests and the apprehension of 31 fugitives. Nieddu stopped 1,068 vehicles for traffic infractions, issued 1,973 citations and handled 1,986 calls for service. In addition, her peers have voted Nieddu as Snellville Police Officer of the Year two years in a row. Nieddu’s award comes on the heels of Capt. Forsyth deputies seek dressing room peeper

Forsyth County officials seek a man accused of peeping into the women’s dressing room at Belk inside Lakeland Plaza in Cumming on Saturday.

The suspect is described as being in his mid- to late 30s, 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He has short brown hair, and was wearing blue jeans with torn pockets, flip flops, a dark “Bulldogs” hooded sweatshirt and a blue bandanna. Anyone who recognizes the suspect is asked to call Det. Johns Creek woman dies in single-car crash

A Johns Creek woman was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Ga. Hwy. 400 in Forsyth County Monday night.

Eden Sara Hersh, 50, of Johns Creek was traveling southbound on Ga. 400, just north of the McFarland Boulevard exit, around 8:15 p.m. when her Honda Pilot left the roadway and struck a concrete pole.

Hersh died from the injuries shortly after she was transported to North Fulton Hospital in Roswell. Hersh was alone in the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved.Fran Jeffries

Forsyth County youngsters interested in learning what it takes to be a firefighter can sign up for a free week-long summer camp program.

The Junior Fire Academy for incoming seventh and eighth grade students will be held 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. July 28-Aug.1 at Forsyth County Fire Department Headquarters, 3520 Settingdown Road, Cumming. In addition, kids who have attended a prior camp can take part in a special two-day fire junior academy July 22-23.

University presidents discuss higher ed

Five presidents from Atlanta area colleges and universities will discuss the evolution of higher education’s role in society during a lecture 6:30 p.m. today at Emory University’s Cannon Chapel.

The “Higher Education and the Evolving Social Contract” will feature James Wagner, Emory’s president; Elizabeth Kiss, president of Agnes Scott College; G.P. “Bud” Peterson, president of Georgia Tech; Mark Becker, president of Georgia State University; and John Wilson Jr., president of Morehouse College.

The discussion will be moderated by Brendan Ozawa-de Silva, a research fellow for the Emory-Tibet Partnership and religious life scholar at Emory.

Leaders to host crime forum

Several Atlanta and Fulton County leaders are hosting a forum on crime and violence in the area 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at Atlanta Metropolitan State College, 1630 Metropolitan Parkway. DEKALB

Decatur annexes small properties

Decatur’s commission approved annexing seven homes on Conway Road in southeast Decatur and a parcel property on East Parkwood west of the city, previously half in Decatur and half in DeKalb County. The annexations become official June 1.

These are separate from the petition for a larger annexation of 76 homes (and potentially 10 new students in the school system) in the Parkwood neighborhood, which the commission will likely vote on later this spring. Bill Banks for the AJC

The South DeKalb Improvement Association will hold a public meeting at 9:30 a.m. April 12 at Berean Community Center, 2440 Young Road, Stone Mountain.
