Construction closes downtown street
As construction progresses on the College Football Hall of Fame, Foundry Street has been closed permanently.
Baker Street, which lines the north end of the property, has been widened and extended around to the west of the site to extend into the Georgia World Congress Center gulch.

Hopkins Road bridge replacement begins
Beginning today, the bridge on Hopkins Road over Wildhorse Creek in Powder Springs will be replaced, resulting in a two-month closure.
Detour routes will be provided for the construction by Powder Springs and Cobb County.
Also, the sidewalk on the road’s west side will be extended to connect to the Silver Comet Trail. Carolyn Cunningham for the AJC

Fulton seeks comment on program changes
The Fulton County Housing and Human Services Department wants public input on proposed changes to its 2010-14 consolidated plan and neighborhood stabilization program annual plan.
The changes affect housing rehabilitation, emergency shelter and other programs. Copies are available at www.fultoncountyga.gov and at various county facilities.
Written comments are due by 5 p.m. June 13. Constitution to be topic of Roswell lecture
Jack Ferguson will present his lecture, “Georgia Signers of the Constitution,” at Barrington Hall in Roswell on May 29.
The doors open at 6:30 p.m., and Ferguson will begin his presentation at 7 p.m. Complimentary light refreshments will be served.
Admission is $5. Seating is limited, and most lectures fill up quickly.

County announces June road closure
Beech Haven Road NE will be closed to through traffic between Brook Forest Drive and Wild Creek Trail NE at the following dates and times:
6 a.m. to 10 p.m. June 5, 6 ,17 and 18; 1 p.m. to 7 a.m. June 20, 21, 24, 25 and 26. Road closure signs will be posted in the area advising of construction work and traffic detours. Staff

Hampton PD to teach gun safety class
The Hampton Police Department is conducting a six-hour firearms safety course June 22.
Completion of the class is required for residents to use the department’s firing range.
Participants must be at least 21 years of age, have no felony convictions and pass a criminal background check.
Space is limited and priority will be given to Hampton residents.
Participants must bring an unloaded handgun, 50 rounds of ammunition and eye and ear protection.
