Whitefoord opens new family health center

On Dec. 13, the Whitefoord Community Program opened its new Family Medical Center at 30 Warren Street in the Kirkwood neighborhood of south east Atlanta in DeKalb County.

Whitefoord Community Program’s first community health center will cater to adults and children.

The program also provides three school-based health centers at Whitefoord Elementary School, Sammy E. Coan Middle School and Crim Open Campus.

Foundation to host annual ball Feb. 9

The Cobb Schools Foundation will recognize alumni and community leaders at its first Leaders & Legends Ball Feb. 9 at the Hilton Marietta Conference Center.

The black-tie celebration will include special guests, dinner, dancing and a silent auction.

Auditions to be held for MLK Day celebration

Auditions will be held for limited entertainment slots for Cobb’s Martin Luther King Jr. celebration, to be held Jan. 21.

Musical presentations, dance interpretations, dramatic readings and all performing arts are welcome, but the work must be a tribute to King.

Auditions will take place 6 p.m. Jan. 3; 10 a.m. Jan. 5; and 6 p.m. Jan. 10 at the Cobb Civic Center, 548 S. Marietta Parkway.

Little league coaches needed for spring

College Park is seeking coaches for the 2013 baseball season.

Qualifications: Must be able to work well with children, ages 3 to 14, to teach them the game of baseball.

Able to commit time to the children in the program, for practices and games. Must be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.

The league starts in April 2013.

Academic team places high at tournament

The Etowah High School Academic Team scored top honors among all Georgia schools and took third place overall in a recent regional academic bowl competition.

Henry

Henry schools’ 2013-14 calendar proposed

The Henry County School System has released its proposed 2013-14 calendar for public comment.

Under the new plan the first day of school is Aug. 5, and fall break would move from September to the second week of October.

The new calendar is based on a 175-day school year with six furlough days for administrators and five furlough days for other employees.
