Three convicted in 2012 killing of Kennesaw man
Percy Burdine, 31, Jalin Collins, 20, and Brandon Love, 20, all of Woodstock, were convicted Thursday of felony murder and aggravated assault in connection with the slaying of Milton Carl Kelley of Kennesaw in April 2012. The trio, who were also convicted on marijuana possession charges, killed Kelley, 53, at his Leicester Drive home. In addition to those charges, Collins and Love were both convicted of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony and Love was convicted of malice murder.

Marietta High to host Turkish athletes
Fourteen high school athletes and their coach and trainer from Turkey will train with Marietta High School’s basketball teams Monday and Tuesday. The group’s seven boys and seven girls are in the SportsUnited cq program, a cultural exchange sponsored by the U.S. Department of State. No-go in Powder Springs for movie chase
Mayor Patricia Vaughn said she was called recently by a representative for “Barely Lethal,” a movie starring Samuel L. Jackson and Jessica Alba with filming continuing in Georgia through mid-December.
She said they were looking for a 2.5-mile stretch for a high-speed chase after filming at Richard’s Auto Salvage in Austell.
The city’s Police Chief Charlie Sewell confirmed there was no such place in the city without closing down part of U.S. 278, which would need a state permit and cause a major traffic disruption for the city’s busiest route. Carolyn Cunningham for the AJC

Race will benefit public gardens
A 5-K race through Swift-Cantrell Park and downtown Kennesaw today will benefit the city’s Smith-Gilbert Gardens. Police: Lilburn teen hid gun near high school
Demarcus Connell Lewis, Jr., 17, is charged with possession of a pistol or revolver by a person under the age of 18.
Lilburn police said Lewis was seen hiding a handgun in some bushes at a medical building next door to Berkmar High School.
Security video recorded from the school supported a witness’ assertion that Lewis hid the unloaded weapon then proceeded to the school building, authorities said. Marcus K. Garner
Woman burned in Buford house fire
A woman sustained second-degree burns in a house fire Thursday afternoon in the 200 block of South Alexander Street in Buford. No one else was injured. The house was thought to be vacant and did not have electric or natural gas service.
The fire was determined to be accidental, but the house was a total loss, with most of the walls and the roof destroyed. Michelle E. Shaw

After an eight-month redesign process, Lilburn has announced the launch of a new website at www.cityoflilburn.com. Residents may request city services and make requests for yard debris pick-up, report a needed street repair, or make the city aware of any issue needing attention, even sending the city a picture of the problem using an iPhone. The new website also allows residents to sign up to receive the city’s e-newsletter, event information, police bulletins, emergency alerts, bid postings, council agendas as well as pay citations online without having to make a trip to Municipal Court. “America’s Got Talent” eyes Cherokee band
The Cherokee High School Band of Warriors has been invited by the producers of “America’s Got Talent” to perform at the Atlanta auditions on today. “The band will be shown on national TV,” Principal Debra Murdock said. Johns Creek man accused of stabbing
A 33-year-old Johns Creek man with a history of mental problems has been taken into custody for allegedly stabbing his mother multiple times, authorities said.
Andre Ottey could be charged with aggravated assault. The woman, whose name was not released, received non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed with a knife in her abdomen, neck and arm, police said.
She was transported to North Fulton Hospital. While the police department has responded to the house, in the 4700 block of Ogeechee Drive, on several occasions, this is the first time police said there was physical violence of this nature. Michelle E. Shaw

Skeletal remains found in DeKalb
DeKalb County police are investigating skeletal remains found near the corner of Glenwood Road and Covington Highway.
Early Thursday evening police were called to the scene by someone who came across the remains while looking for scrap metal, said police.
The remains appear to be that of an adult, not a child, he said. The gender and cause of death were not immediately clear.

Animal welfare group hosts fundraiser

Gun found in locker at Fulton middle school
A student is facing criminal charges and school disciplinary action after a gun was found in a locker at Eat Point’s Woodland Middle School Thursday.

“Thriller” engineer to speak at Clayton State

Hapeville investigates woman’s death
Police are investigating after a woman was found in a Hapeville apartment building.
Authorities have not released much information about the incident, which happened Thursday at a building on South Fulton Avenue.

McDonough hosts vets services
A Veterans Day service is scheduled for 11 a.m.Nov. 11, at the Veterans Wall of Honor in McDonough’s Heritage Park, 101 Lake Dow Road just off Hwy. 81.

There will be remarks by a number of local officials and patriotic music from various school groups.
The keynote speaker is retired U.S. Army Capt. Tommy Clack, who lost three limbs in Vietnam in 1969 and recently retired after 47 years of military and government service.
