Giager says he won’t run for mayor
Avondale’s board of mayor and commissioners is expected to officially declare the office of mayor vacant Monday while also calling for a March 17, 2015 special election to choose a replacement for the recently-resigned Ed Rieker.
But Terry Giager, current mayor pro tem, and with five years in office the commissioner with the most experience, said this week he won’t run.
Giager cited the time commitment as his primary reason. “It’s practically a full-time job,” he said, “though I seriously pray it won’t become a paid position. Money always causes problems.” Bill Banks for the AJC
