Forsyth may change alcohol ordinance

The Forsyth County Board of Commissioners holds a public hearing 5 p.m. Thursday at the county’s administration building, 110 E. Main St., Cumming.

The topic of discussion is a proposed ordinance amendment allowing “growler” tastings at retail package stores selling the beer/malt beverage containers (but not distilled spirits).

The change would allow prospective growler buyers to sample up to 8 ounces daily.

Health clinic volunteers win national honors

Volunteers with a free health clinic near Lithonia that offers care to more than 1,500 people each year will be given the President’s Volunteer Service Award later this month.

The 27 volunteers will receive the honor in a special ceremony April 27 at the South DeKalb Center for Healthy Living, 2699 Klondike Road.

The facility relies entirely on donations and volunteers to provide medical care to uninsured and low-income residents throughout the region.

International academy plans open house

Legacy of Purpose Preparatory Academy, Gwinnett Inc., an international multilingual school in Lilburn, will hold a ribbon-cutting 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 5 with a blessing of the school by the Rev. Wesley Sanders, pastor of Berkmar United Methodist Church. The open house is 10 am. to 2 p.m. April 6.

Super Incredible Race returns to Suwanee

Suwanee is bringing back its Super Incredible Race at 3 p.m. April 20.

The scavenger-hunt like race, similar to The Amazing Race, invites teams of two or more family members to compete with a series of clues that require a variety of high-energy mental and physical challenges.

Suwanee’s free spring concert will immediately follow the race at 7 p.m.

Pre-registration is required to race by April 5: www.suwanee.com.

Registration fee is $25 per two-person team plus $10 per additional participant for family teams.
