Meeting on south Fulton transportation

Fulton County’s Department of Facilities and Transportation Services is hosting the first of a series of meetings on the South Fulton Comprehensive Transportation Plan at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Cliftondale Community Center, 4645 Butner Road, College Park. The county commission approved the plan in December. Residents will be asked for their input to set priorities for transportation project recommendations.

May is Foster Care Month in Fayette

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners has designated May as Foster Care Month. The proclamation notes that more than 14,000 Georgia children need such care, and more families in Fayette are needed to open their homes to displaced kids. May 12-18 will be Foster Parent Appreciation Week, when residents are encouraged to offer support to individuals and organization that provide foster care services.

Animal shelter offers reduced adoption fees

DeKalb County Animal Services is offering special adoption rates during May.

Adoption fees for dogs six months and older are $20, and $10 for cats. All animals will be spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Regular screening criteria will apply to ensure the animals are going to good homes.

Avondale cancels commission meeting

Avondale Estates has cancelled tonight’s monthly Board of Mayor and Commissioners Regular Meeting, and won’t convene again until June 23. City Manager Clai Brown said the move is unusual but not unheard of, adding the city also cancelled a commission meeting last year. Bill Banks for the AJc
