Swing into Spring tournament expected to attract 150
An estimated 150 players are expected to compete in the Gwinnett Chamber of Commerce’s fifth annual Swing into Spring golf tournament at TPC Sugarloaf in Duluth on May 29. One hundred forty-four executives played last year in the tournament, whose six major sponsors include Charter Business and Verizon. Business executives will compete in foursomes over 18 holes, with trophies awarded for the first-, second- and third-place teams.
“It’s a day to mix and mingle and network,” said Lisa Sherman, the chamber’s vice president of communications. “It’s all in an effort to cultivate the tight, close-knit business community we want in Georgia.”

Schools create website to book facilities
Looking for a venue for a community event?
Fulton County Schools will make the the process of booking events at school facilities easier with the creation of a new website.
The district will launch “SchoolDude” on June 1.
The web-based program streamlines the process by helping visitors schedule dates and determine applicable rental fees.
Principals will review the request and grant preliminary approval, if acceptable. Final approval will be given by the district’s Facilities Rental office.

College Park court offers amnesty period
An estimated 1,200 delinquent citation in the College Park court system may be eligible for fee waivers during a 60-day amnesty period.
College Park announced a 60-day amnesty program April 1 through May 31. Individuals who received citations in College Park and have failed to appear in court qualify for the program. The amnesty program applies to any and all outstanding tickets regardless of date. Offenders will be required to pay the ticket in full to have the $134 arrest warrant fees waived and the failure to appear charges dismissed. Safety night set for May 29
Henry County public safety and government officials are hosting a Safety and Protection Night Tuesday, May 29, from 5-8 p.m. at the Home Depot parking lot on Fairview Road in Ellenwood. It is an evening designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support and participation in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and emergency services community partnerships, and let criminals know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The event is free and open to the public. In addition to various displays by Henry County law enforcement, the Henry County Fire Department and the 911 Command Center, McGruff will make an appearance and there will be food and booths set up by local businesses, along with music and a DJ.

Enrollment begins for single-gender schools
Parents of current APS students, and people who live outside of the city of Atlanta can apply in person until June 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Applications by by mail or fax will not be accepted. Students in Boyd, F.L. Stanton, Towns, Scott, Grove Park/Woodson attendance zones will be given first priority. Applications and details about APS’ single-gender schools can be found online at www.atlanta.k12.ga.us.
