Planning underway for Clarkston streetscape

Clarkston has begun planning the design of a $5.7 million streetscape for its Ponce de Leon corridor.

The project, between Interstate 285 and Market Street, is expected to take until 2018 to complete and will include bike lanes, railroad crossing improvements and street parking.

Tree work in Norcross may affect traffic

Norcross will remove two trees in the downtown area and another near the entrance to Thrasher Park beginning today, with working continuing through Friday.

Four elm trees in front of businesses on Jones Street will also be trimmed. The work will entail some street and sidewalk closures while the trees are being removed and the stumps ground out.

Registration set for charity run

Registration is underway for the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency’s eighth annual Guns and Hoses 5K and Fun Run, 8 a.m. Feb. 15 at Hobgood Park, 6688 Bells Ferry Road, Woodstock.

A portion of entry fees will go to charities designated by the sheriff’s and fire and emergency services departments.

‘SnakesKin’ star appears in nature show

Union City offers student driving class

Georgia Teens Ride with PRIDE (Parents Reducing Injuries and Driver Error) is a free, national award-winning, course designed to help parents and their new (or soon to be) teen drivers, ages 14-16, learn what they need to do during the 40 hours of supervised practice driving time required by Georgia law.  The next class is 6 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 8 at Police Headquarters, 5060 Union St., Union City.

Registration is required for the free class.

Forsyth

Forsyth library will expand hours this year

The Forsyth County Public Library will expanding operating hours effective Sunday after the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners provide an additional $67,000 in funding.

The changes mean the Cumming, Post Road, Hampton Park and Sharon Forks branches will be open until 8:30 p.m. one additional night weekly.

Hampton Park will open at 10 a.m. on Tuesdays.
