Chattahoochee Paddle at Riverview Landing

The Georgia Conservancy, Chattahoochee NOW and REI will host an 11-mile flat-water paddle on the Chattahoochee River at 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverview Landing, 6269 Riverview Road SE, Mableton, ending near Sweetwater Creek State Park, 1750 Mount Vernon Road, Lithia Springs.

For $10, nonpaddlers may join the after-paddle campfire party for a riverside cookout and live music from City Mouse at 6 p.m. at Riverview Landing.

Registration: $25 for paddlers with their own boats, including shuttle and guide services and the party.

Peachtree Corners ZIP codes recognized

The US Postal Service will now recognize 30092 as Peachtree Corners. For residents whose ZIP code is 30092 but live in Norcross, they will have the option to select Norcross when completing information online. Property owners may appeal values

Douglas County property owners have until 5 p.m. July 28 to appeal their new property values with decisions expected in three to six months.

There is a 55 percent increase in property values this year compared to a 13 percent increase last year.

Even with an appeal, property owners must pay 85 percent of their tax bills with any adjustments refunded if settled.

School board holds tax-increase hearings

The Paulding County Board of Education will hold the final two of three public hearings on a proposed tax hike of 14.3 percent due to property value increases.

The hearings will be at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. July 22 at the Paulding County Board of Education, 3236 Atlanta Highway, Dallas.

Geocaching to take place in Johns Creek

Johns Creek is kicking off its geocaching game.

Geocaching allows participants to use their GPS units to navigate to a specific set of coordinates, and then attempt to find the container hidden at that location. Inside the container are small prizes. Participants sign a logbook, and return the container where it was hidden. Often people leave trinkets for others to find.

Geocaches: Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, 9770 Autrey Mill Road; Newtown Park, 3150 Old Alabama Road; Ocee Park, 10900 Buice Road; and Shakerag Park, 10945 Rogers Circle.
