Workshop to focus on water conservation

Alpharetta and Fulton County Public Works Water Services will hold a “make and take” rain barrel workshop at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Alpharetta Engineering/Public Works Department, 1790 Hembree Road.

Fulton to honor retiring education employees

More than 300 retiring Fulton County education employees will be honored at a semi-formal event on June 6 in the Atlanta Marriott Marquis’ Marquis Ballroom.

Motivational speaker and coach Ken Carter, the inspiration for the movie “Coach Carter” will be keynote speaker.

Deadline looms for property tax appeals

Henry County property owners have until June 10 to file an appeal should they question the valuation their property was given.

Personal property assessment notices are expected to mail next week, and citizens have until June 28 to file an appeal regarding the value of their personal property, which includes boats, airplanes and business inventory.

Kennesaw opens biking and walking trails

Kennesaw has opened three biking and walking trails to continue a series of pathways connecting city neighborhoods to downtown.

The new trails start at First Baptist Church on North Main Street, link to Whispering Lake and Matlock Trails off Moon Station Road and end at Jiles Road.

The city has received $301,000 from Georgia Department of Natural Resource grants to help build five trails since 2006. Tucker McQueen for the AJC

Sorority hosts empowerment summit

The Marietta-Roswell Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. will address preserving the value of your home, improving your credit, and finding a job at the fourth annual Community Empowerment Summit 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Smyrna Community Center, 200 Village Green Circle.

UGA Day coming to Gwinnett July 29

The University of Georgia Alumni Association and the UGA Athletic Association have teamed up to bring UGA Day to Gwinnett County on July 29.

A buffet dinner begins at 6 p.m., followed by the official program at 7 p.m. at the Gwinnett Center and will feature incoming President Jere Morehead, head football coach Coach Mark Richt and basketball coach Mark Fox.
