Nutrition class for seniors on fat intake
The Gwinnett Extension Service will hold a nutrition class for seniors focusing on the control of fat intake 11 a.m. to noon, Tuesday, Feb. 5 at the Norcross Senior Center, 5030 Georgia Belle Ct. in Norcross.
This free class will teach seniors about fat and calorie goals, how to properly weigh and measure food, how to keep track of food intake, and how to eat less fat and fewer calories.

Barge to speak at Dunwoody school
Georgia school superintendent John Barge will speak at the Dunwoody Chamblee Parent Council’s monthly morning meeting Wednesday.
The event is 9:15 to 10:30 a.m. at Peachtree Charter Middle School, 4664 N. Peachtree Road, Dunwoody.

Stories, film and art will help participants learn about Georgia’s African-American history from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Powder Springs Library, 4181 Atlanta St.

Blood drive Feb. 15 in McDonough
The American Red Cross and Henry County government are hosting a blood drive 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at the county administration building in McDonough. All blood types are needed, particularly Type O negative. You must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in general good health to donate blood.
Walk-ins are welcome but donors may schedule appointments at www.redcrossblood.org and enter the sponsor code HCGVT.

Piedmont Henry offers heart health screening
Piedmont Henry Hospital will be offering heart health screenings from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 12 at Walmart on Hudson Bridge Road, Stockbridge.
Participants can receive free total cholesterol screenings and cardiovascular risk assessments.
No fasting is required for the total cholesterol screening.
