Council to consider pedestrian bridge
The Marietta City Council will consider a request from Wellstar Health System, Inc. for a pedestrian bridge on Church Street at a meeting 7 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 205 Lawrence St. Kennestone Hospital has asked for an easement to build a sky bridge that would connect the hospital to a new emergency department and parking deck proposed to be built between Church and Cherokee Streets. KSU Civil War lectures Saturday
Michael K. Shaffer, assistant director of Kennesaw State University’s Civil War Center, will deliver two lectures Saturday. The first, ‘The Civil War History of Camp McDonald,’ is 10 a.m. at the Pickett’s Mill Battlefield. Marietta signing up for July 4 parade
Marietta is looking for bands, military units, scouts, beauty queens and businesses to participate in the July 4 Let Freedom Ring parade. Applications accepted through May 30 for the 1.5 mile parade from Roswell Street Baptist Church to Cherokee Street and North Marietta Parkway. Austell will buy 3 new police cars
Austell city officials will spend $104,164 for three new police cars. The 2014 Ford Explorers will be bought from Hardy Family Ford in Dallas. Austell will open new John Street Park
Austell city officials will spend $21,000 for a new park on John Street that will have a playground, picnic pavilion and a grill. Funding will come from the special purpose local option sales tax or SPLOST. Carolyn Cunningham for the AJC Book sale to benefit Cobb libraries The Cobb Library system will sell more than 100,000 books and other items 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today and Saturday and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Sunday at Jim Miller Park, 2245 Callaway Road, Marietta. Kennesaw museum to honor attorney
The Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History will honor supporter and donor Fred D. Bentley Sr. at a gala 6:30 tonight at the museum, 2829 Cherokee St., Kennesaw sponsored by the museum’s foundation. Capital campaign exceeds expectations
For the first time in its nearly 30-year history, Leadership Gwinnett launched a capital campaign as part of a five-year strategic plan to enhance scholarship opportunities and strategic outreach. Their initial goal of $600,000 has been exceeded for a total of more than $900.000 raised. In addition to Leadership Gwinnett’s 9-month signature program, the foundation plans to launch a new 2 ½ day program this fall to provide information on how to put leadership into action within the community.
