Marietta school bus driver cited for wreck
No students were injured when a Marietta city school bus collided with a passenger vehicle Thursday morning, police said.
The driver of the passenger vehicle was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m., and motorists were temporarily urged to take alternative routes. The school bus was headed to Marietta High School with 46 students on board when it struck a passenger vehicle while attempting to turn from South Marietta Parkway onto Whitlock Avenue. Police athletic league seeks funding
The Marietta Police Athletic League has set a goal to raise $5,000 by November 30 to buy equipment for its youth sports program. Marietta mayor proposes term limits
Marietta Mayor Steve Tumlin has asked the city council to limit individual term limits for mayor and council members to three consecutive terms starting January 2018. The city’s judicial/legislative committee will discuss the request at a meeting starting 5:15 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall, 205 Lawrence St. The local Cobb legislative delegation would have to amend the city charter to change the limits.

Lawmakers to mark city’s 175th birthday
Georgia U.S. Reps. Powder Springs clerk announces retirement
Powder Springs City Clerk Dawn Davis announced during the City Council pre-meeting on Monday she will resign at the end of this year.
Serving for the last nearly eight years, Davis told the AJC, “It’s the right time” with “all of my friends retiring.”
Previously for 33 years, Davis said she worked in the Human Resources payroll department for Georgia State University until her retirement.

Duluth’s sixth class of L.E.A.D. (Learn, Engage, Advance Duluth) graduated Tuesday. Animal shelter to sponsor food drive
Gwinnett County Animal Welfare and Enforcement Services will host a food drive for the Gwinnett CAN Challenge to increase donations to local food banks. Dyslexia documentary viewed in Alpharetta
The International Dyslexia Association Georgia Branch and Decoding Dyslexia Georgia will host a preview of the documentary DISLECKSIA: The Movie 7:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at Studio Movie Grill, 2880 Holcombe Bridge Road, Alpharetta. Parolee accused in Roswell home invasion
Robert Earl Foster Jr. was arrested Monday and charged with burglary, aggravated battery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and theft by taking from a home invasion on Oct. 18, police said. Investigators believe Foster entered the back door of a home on Hembree Grove Overlook wearing a mask and holding a knife. A struggle took place between a resident of the home and the suspect, who used duct tape to bind the victim before leaving the home. Marshal’s office issues scam warning
The Cherokee County Marshal’s Office wants residents to be careful about door-to-door salespeople.
Chief Marshall Chris Collett says he’s getting reports of solicitors without permits trying to talk their way into homes.
He says those lacking permits haven’t had a criminal background check and shouldn’t be allowed inside.

Cherokee ethics group seeks new member
The Cherokee County Board of Ethics is looking to fill a vacancy immediately. Prospective candidates should be Cherokee County residents and Democratic Party members.

Canton changes council meeting policy
The Canton City Council voted 5-1 to eliminate its system of one work session, or non-voting meeting a month, and one voting meeting.
From now both council meetings, which are held the first and third Thursdays of the month, will be voting sessions.
The present policy, adopted in May of 2012, had limited voting during work sessions to emergencies, however the council has voted on items seen as more routine at times.

Suspect arrested after shots fired at officers
Derrick Lamar Byron, 27, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, use of a firearm by a felon during a crime and reckless conduc after shots were fired at police officers Wednesday afternoon in northeast Atlanta, authorities said. The officers were not injured in the incident at Irwin and Sampson streets.
Two officers were parked in a patrol car when they heard a gunshot and saw the man.

Arrest made in shooting of boy, 11
Atlanta police have made an arrest in Wednesday night’s shooting of an 11-year-old boy in southwest Atlanta.
A police spokesman said the name of the male suspect was being withheld because the investigation is still active.
The boy was shot around 8:30 p.m. while outside in the 900 block of Coleman Street. Investigators believe the child was an innocent bystander and was struck as two groups of people exchanged gunfire in the street. Michelle E. Shaw
Several metro schools to get learning gardens
Vegetable gardens that will help students learn about healthy foods and fresh produce are going up in 40 Atlanta public schools, with one of the first opened at Centennial Place Elementary on Friday.

Doraville projecting growth in fund balance
Doraville City Manager recently reported that the north DeKalb City is on pace to end the year with nearly $2.8 million in its fund balance.

No ID released for body found in boarded-up home
The identity of a man found dead inside a vacant home in south Fulton County is no longer a mystery, police said.
But the name of that man is being withheld pending notification of next of his next of kin. The man appeared to have been either shot or stabbed in the abdomen and the death is being investigated as a homicide. The man was found inside a home in the 2200 block of Flat Shoals Road by a person checking on the home, which is vacant and has boarded-up windows, police said.

The Fayette County Board of Commissioners passed a resolution last week asking Facebook to “withdraw any plans to expose our teenagers to serious threats on the Internet in an attempt to increase profits.” Facebook now allows users ages 13-17 to make photos and other updates viewable by the public, including advertisers.
