Decision on EMC open meetings postponed
A decision on open board meetings at Cobb EMC will wait a little longer while board members study the change. The board decided Tuesday to form an ad hoc committee to review details of the proposed transparency initiative — one of several proposed by CEO Chip Nelson .
The meeting was a first for three of the four board members elected earlier this month. New director Cheryl Meadows, who replaced Henry Balkcom, in the Pataula District in west Georgia, was unable to attend. The three new members, including David Tennant who suggested the further study, will join chairman Larry Chadwick and incumbent member Johnny Gresham on the ad hoc committee.
The board also formalized the date for its annual meeting on Feb. 18 at Piedmont Church in Marietta when elections will be held for three more board seats.

The nonprofit organization, which already operates the Life Enrichment Center in Fayetteville, will work with the city under an annual contract to transform the former Recreation Administration building into additional space for leisure activities. Programs will still be offered at the Gathering Place facility in the same complex, but plans to enlarge it were scrapped.

The initiative is targeted at influential individuals 20-30 years in age “who possess high moral and intellectual integrity and an entrepreneurial spirit.” In Atlanta, Reed and Young will serve as mentors and will collaborate with the group.
