Counterfeiters seek to exploit demand for SEC Championship tickets

Though it was sold out months ago, the SEC Championship Game remains a hot ticket. Literally.

Georgia Dome officials are putting out the word to be wary of counterfeiters seeking to exploit the heavy demand for the Georgia-Alabama game.

“The demand for tickets to this game is very high, and counterfeiters will try to take advantage of that,” said Dome spokesman Jason Kirksey.

But the tickets are difficult to duplicate and it’s not hard to detect bogus ones, as long as you know what to look for.

Kirksey said there are three holograms on the legitimate tickets, all of which contain the SEC logo. The tickets are also printed on a glossy material.

“They are different than any others you’ve seen,” Kirksey said.

Holograms can’t be scanned or copied, he said, so be wary of tickets with distorted designs.

“If people look for those things they should be in good shape,” Kirskey said.

For those who want more of a guarantee, the Dome will open a ticket validation window Saturday at 10 a.m.

According to Stub Hub, the cheapest seat — in the Upper End Zone, Row 17 — is priced at $349.99. The most expensive ones were going for $850 as of 1 p.m. Monday.
