Acting on a tip, not their sense of smell, Gwinnett County police on Tuesday uncovered roughly $1.8 million worth of counterfeit cologne from a Lawrenceville warehouse.
Police said they found 18,000 pounds of assorted perfumes, including fake versions of such tony brands as Kenneth Cole, Versace, Diesel and Burberry. Only one arrest has been made: Lilia Lara, 51, of Norcross, has been charged with one count of counterfeiting. The investigation is ongoing, a Gwinnett police spokesman said.
Officers had staked out the warehouse, located in the 2040 block of Old Norcross Road, to confirm the tip. They stormed the facility after watching workers prepare to unload the pricey cargo, police said.
