Dunwoody police Lt. Fidel Espinoza noticed something odd as he walked into Dillard’s at Perimeter Mall on Monday night.
Just beyond the door, in the foyer, there was a pink animal crate. Inside was a little black puppy.
Perplexed by the find, police reviewed the store’s surveillance footage.
“We saw an unknown adult male walk in, look around, set the crate down and walk off,” Espinoza said in a post on the department’s Facebook page. “The video didn't capture the subject's face very well.”

A number of Dillard’s customers came by and offered to help. But the first was an assistant manager.
“She'll take the puppy home and is willing to adopt her,” Espinoza said.
The puppy got a new “mom,” as the officer put it, and also a new name.
They called her Dilly.
