Michigan police are conducting an investigation after an officer allegedly tasered a man who was holding his baby.

A Phoenix High School student threatened a classmate with a stun gun during a fight, according to Gwinnett County Public Schools police.

The 17-year-old male was charged with carrying a weapon in a school zone. The altercation occurred on Oct. 11 but the student was not arrested until Oct. 25.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is withholding the student’s identity because he is under 18.

The student had gotten into a fight with a different person on Oct. 10, and the following day, he got angry at a classmate because “he thought [the classmate] said something negative about the fight,” the police report says.

The student approached the classmate at a Dunkin’ Donuts outside Phoenix High School and challenged him to a fight. The classmate ran back to the school and hid in a bathroom, the report says. The school and the donut shop are next to each other off Duluth Highway in Lawrenceville. Phoenix High School is an “open campus school,” meaning some students can come and go as necessary at certain times.

Friends prevented the student from getting into the bathroom, the report says. At one point, the student pulled out a stun gun and said he would use it on the classmate, according to the report. Administrators stepped in and stopped the incident, getting the student away from the bathroom where the classmate was hiding.

Police saw the student pull out the stun gun on surveillance footage and obtained a warrant for his arrest on Oct. 11. The Gwinnett County Sheriff’s Office arrested the student on the morning of Oct. 25.  He is being held without bond at the Gwinnett County Detention Center.
