DeKalb County police said Friday they have arrested a 16-year-old suspect in connection with a carjacking that turned violent, with a man shot and a woman sexually assaulted.

The youth, whose identity was not given, faces charges including aggravated assault, armed robbery and kidnapping, police said. Investigators continue to seek a second suspect.

The DeKalb incident was one of two within a 12-hour span in metro Atlanta. The second occurred across town in the parking lot of a Target store in Cobb County, and a female victim and her young child got away unharmed.

Channel 2 Action News reported that the DeKalb incident happened after a woman working at a Buckhead business got a ride home from her boss late Thursday night.

The pair were stopped at the intersection of Canberra Drive and Devon Way just before midnight when two armed suspects approached their Infiniti and forced their way into the vehicle.

The robbers made the woman move to the back seat, and the man to the front passenger seat. The suspects then drove the victims to several ATMs.

At one point, the man tried to escape, Channel 2 reported.

Police said the man was shot in the back but was able to make his way to a business on Covington Highway, and the police were called. The man was taken to a hospital in serious condition.

Officers canvassed the area and found the victim’s car along Panola Road with the woman inside, Channel 2 reported. The woman told police she had been sexually assaulted, police said.

Police later arrested the 16-year-old. Investigators have not released the names of the victims, and the second suspect remains at large.

In the Cobb County incident,  Marietta Police are investigating a robbery and attempted carjacking that occurred around 9:25 a.m. Friday at a Target store on Cobb Parkway.

The woman grabbed her child and escaped, and the man drove away in her dark blue 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe bearing Georgia tag AEV4635, according to Marietta police reports.

The suspect, described as a light-skinned black man in his early 20s, was wearing a white T-shirt, red shorts, red ball cap and black socks and shoes.
