Conyers police shot a man who allegedly stabbed his mother.
The suspect’s 16-year-old sister called authorities Friday morning about the incident on Rockbridge Road in front of the Eastmont apartment complex.
Jackie Dunn, criminal investigations commander for Conyers police, told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that when police arrived on the scene, they found a man with a knife kneeling over a woman. The man has been identified as 21-year-old Pernell Presley.
Police ordered Presley to drop the knife, and he charged at officers, one of whom shot him. Presley, who one witness said had begun stabbing himself before police arrived, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital, where he was in serious but stable condition, police said.
Presley’s mother, 42-year-old Trisa Stallworth, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center, where she was in stable condition, police said. Dunn said she was stabbed seven times.
The police officer who shot Presley has been placed on administrative leave, which is routine, and the GBI is investigating.
