An Austell man who just six months ago was convicted of child molestation was arrested Wednesday for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old boy, the Paulding County Sheriff's Office said.

Demetrius Cortez Jones, 19, was charged with child molestation and aggravated sodomy and is being held without bond at the Paulding County Detention Center, a sheriff's spokeswoman said.

Jones fled the Hiram residence where the alleged assault occurred after being confronted by a witness, the Sheriff's Office said. U.S. marshals were enlisted to help search for him, and the suspect was apprehended about four hours later near Angham Road.

Jones was convicted in Cobb County last August for child molestation and had registered as a sex offender last November, according to the Sheriff's Office.
