Due to the planned groundbreaking for the new Forsyth County Fire Station 8 and demolition of the existing structure, the station’s crews are on the move.

Forsyth County Fire officials said Station 8’s personnel and equipment will relocate to, and respond from, Dawson County Fire Station 2 off Ga. 53 east by mid-February, remaining there until the new station is finished in 12 to 14 months. They said that will ensure continued, timely coverage in North Forsyth.

A county spokeswoman said the current volunteer-built station finished in 1984 has far exceeded its life expectancy and wasn’t designed for 24-hour occupancy. The new fire station will be an expanded four-stall facility.
