Community welcome for new Israeli consul general

The Jewish Federation of Greater Atlanta will host a community reception to welcome  Opher Aviran, Israel's new consul general to the Southeast.

The reception will be held from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Selig Center, 1440 Spring St. NW.

Aviran replaces Reda Mansour, who served in that post for four years.

Aviran served in Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem as head of the bureau for personnel training and development. Prior to that, the served as senior foreign policy advisor to the Israel Defense Forces and director of the MFA's affairs  department of Jordanian, Syrian and Lebanese Affairs. He has also served overseas in the Israeli embassies of Australia, the Netherlands and Burma.
