Decatur’s commission will vote on whether to put City Schools Decatur’s General Obligation Bond on the Nov. 3 ballot during its regular meeting 7:30 p.m. Monday at the City Commission Meeting Room, 509 N. McDonough Street.

CSD is asking for a $75 million bond, to be paid over 25 years, which will help finance new construction and renovation, particularly to Decatur High and Renfroe Middle Schools.

Mayor Jim Baskett said in April he favored putting the bond on the ballot, and school officials are pleased the commission’s approving it now rather than later in the summer. “This gives us plenty time to provide factual, objective information and to answer questions,” said Board Chair Garrett Goebel. He added, however, that the board cannot legally campaign for the bond or attempt persuading residents which way to vote.
